4 Telltale Signs You Should Probably Buy A Spec Home

When looking for a new home in Florida, you’ll hear the term “Spec Home” quite frequently.

Spec homes are homes that the builder has in inventory, either completely ready or almost ready for someone to buy and move right in.

There are many reasons why you might choose to buy a spec home instead of building a new home. But sometimes it boils down to the kind of person and type of homebuyer you are.

Here are 4 telltale signs you should strongly consider buying a spec home.

1. You’re In A Hurry

If you are on a tight schedule, or maybe you’ve sold your home already and you don’t want to find a temporary place to live while your new home is under construction, you might want to pass on building a new home and just buy a home that’s move-in ready.

2. You’re Impatient

If you find a home and community that you love, but simply don’t want to wait six months or more for a home to be built, a spec home is right for you.

Plus, building a new home can be an overwhelming and nerve-wracking process. Seeing what seems like little day-to-day progress at times can be exasperating. If you’re the least bit impatient, building a new home is probably not a process you’ll enjoy.

3. You’re a Micromanager

Some homebuyers feel the urge to micromanage their builder when there is usually no need to do that.

We get it. This is probably one of the biggest purchases you’ll ever make, and you want everything to be perfect. We do too. But going all “helicopter homebuyer” on your builder won’t help anyone or anything.

If you are predisposed to being a micromanager (Married? Ask your spouse!), save everyone the headaches and buy a spec home.

4. Your Design Sense is More “Tony Stewart” Than “Martha Stewart”

Thrifty home upgradesJust because you’ve watched a few diy home design shows on cable, it doesn’t make you a designer.

While you probably have a good idea of what design elements you like, the designers who pick the colors and design elements in all of our move-in ready spec homes know from years and years of experience what truly goes well together.

If design is not something you consider your strong suit, do yourself a favor and leave it to the experts.
