Whether you’re building a new custom Florida home with us, or already are happily at home in one, here’s how to enjoy Pantone’s 2023 Color of the Year.

What’s Pantone?

Founded in 1963, the New Jersey-based Pantone Color Institute has become the standard for color identification and accuracy. Its color formulas are the base colors used in nearly every industry you can imagine, from design to fashion to painting and so on.

Used in combination, the Pantone numbering system and color names assure a uniform and timeless palette no matter what colors an individual or company might choose to adorn their products or to paint their walls.

How is the Color of the Year chosen? The Institute announces its choice for the upcoming year each December, basing it on popular culture, business, and societal trends that its colorists see reflected all around us.

This choice becomes the Pantone Color of the Year. The Institute named its first “Color of the Year” in 2000. Viva Magenta is Pantone’s 25th “Color of the Year.”

Viva Magenta Interior DecorationUsing Viva Magenta inside

Since it’s a saturated color, Viva Magenta works well in smaller rooms, or as an accent.

Using it on the walls of a home office can provide an energizing boost when it’s time to get stuff done. Alternately, center a child’s bed against a vibrant, Viva Magenta accent wall, then allow them to pile up favorite pillows and stuffed animals in contrasting or complimentary colors.

Here’s another fun application of Viva Magenta in your new custom Florida home: wrap a powder or laundry room in brilliant, raspberry paint or wallpaper. You and your guests will smile every time you enter those spaces.

Bonus tip: if you’re planning your interior design for a new ICI Homes home, your designer at one of our design centers can help you choose fixtures, cabinets, and countertops that amplify Viva Magenta. Burnished brass or gold bathroom fixtures are one striking example.

Using Viva Magenta outside

Again, think small (and consult any homeowners association rules). If color mandates aren’t in effect, how about installing Viva Magenta-painted window boxes? Painting your front door?

If you prefer not to use the color on structures or outdoor living accessories, select Viva Magenta-hued foliage and flowers for your planting beds or containers. They’ll enliven your landscape.
