And, it’s family-founded. The local Porter family, which has owned and stewarded Wiregrass Ranch’s land since 1946, had the vision for an family-centered residential community and the Porters remain involved today.

We at ICI Homes are happy to be among Wiregrass Ranch’s preferred builders. You’ll find us in the Persimmon Park neighborhood, where we’ve build new custom Florida homes in multiple phases and continue developing family-friendly, one-and-two-level homes.

We’ll tell you about our work here further below. But first, step back in time to discover Wiregrass Ranch’s familial history.

The Porter family

Wiregrass Ranch is located in the town of Wesley Chapel in Pasco County, part of the Tampa Bay metro area. Its evolution into a booming, busy residential area began in 1946, when James and Martha Porter moved from the Zephyrhills area to Wiregrass Ranch after buying 14,000 acres from the Rockefeller Land Trust in 1942.

They raised cattle (and still do), planted crops and a citrus orchard, while raising sons Bill, Don and Tom.

A vacationing friend’s postcard addressed to “Wiregrass Porter” in 1950 sparked Wiregrass Ranch’s name, referring to the textured grasses whose wiry, flowing blades are common in Florida landscapes.

History at Wiregrass RanchIn the early 1970s, the Porter family began their mission to create a family-oriented community on their acreage. They first sold land to create two earlier area communities — Saddlebrook then Meadow Pointe — with Wiregrass Ranch coming online in the early 2000s.

At 5,000 acres, Wiregrass Ranch continues to grow, and the Porter family continues its involvement.
