Looking for a new custom home on Florida’s Atlantic coast? Its east-central region is one of its fastest growers and for very good reasons.
Smaller cities in this area, like Port Orange, are hidden jewels, boasting all the community options, educational excellence, and recreational opportunities that potential new residents could want. Add beautiful beaches and a year-round temperate climate, and it becomes a must-see for new home buyers.
Port Orange is a city all its own
Along with Ormond Beach, New Smyrna Beach, and Daytona Beach proper, Port Orange helps form the Daytona Beach metro area. It’s located to the south of Daytona Beach, and its location is one of the city’s many strengths.
Residents are minutes from Daytona Beach’s famous attractions and international airport, yet a comfortable distance from crowds and traffic.
Interstate 95, Florida’s north-south Atlantic coast artery, zooms past Port Orange. Interstate 4, which leads to Orlando and Tampa, is just a couple miles north. And those Atlantic beaches? Only a few minutes and miles due east.
Port Orange has a history, too. Founded in 1867, it once was home to citrus groves and a thriving fishing industry. It has been a haven for visitors and seasonal residents for several centuries. Today, it is a bustling, booming city with plentiful shopping, dining, and entertainment, all wrapped up with a hometown vibe.
Stellar public education
According to U.S. News & World Report’s 2022 education rankings of county school systems by state, Spruce Creek High School is Volusia County’s top-rated public high school. Atlantic High School, is No. 4 on that list. Sweetwater Elementary School is the top-rated Volusia County elementary school, while Creekside Middle School is ranked as the county’s No. 2 middle school.
What do all of these schools have in common? Being in Port Orange, of course!
Excellent higher education choices also are right around the corner. Palmer College of Chiropractic, one of only two such accredited institutions in Florida, is located in Port Orange. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Bethune-Cookman University, and Daytona State College are located next door in Daytona Beach.
