Florida remains a prime destination for retirees and with good reason. The balmy climate and natural beauty all make the Sunshine State an attractive choice.
But the latest generations of retirees aren’t moving to Florida to flop on the sand. They’re usually active folks keen on enjoying the amenities and social opportunities available in master-planned communities.
Future retirees are a large part of ICI Homes’ customer base and we’re happy to help make those retirement and second-home dreams come true. If this is you, below we share information from a survey conducted by ideal-LIVING magazine in 2020. Adults were surveyed in northeast, midwest and mid-Atlantic population centers.
It asked soon-to-be-retirees what factors they’re considering for their future new home and lifestyle. Here are the top 6 things retirees want in a home. We hope you find the info helpful!
First, a bit about ideal-LIVING
Why is this media outlet’s information useful for future retirees?
ideal-LIVING focuses on the master-planned community lifestyle and has since 1989. It covers many different geographical regions and wish-lists of home buyers interested in that lifestyle. Naturally, retirees and those soon-to-be — and buyers serious about a second home or a vacation home — fit ideal-LIVING’s targeted readership.
The magazine is offered in both print and digital formats, and sponsors trade-show events focused on master-planned communities, their locations, lifestyles and amenity options.
And the survey says…
The results of ideal-LIVING’s 2020 survey are illuminating. It’s information gleaned from approximately 600 questionnaires completed by trade-show attendees early in the year.
Respondents were asked to cite their priorities in a new retirement or vacation home. From those answers, these are the top 6 things retirees want in a new home. (They were able to select multiple responses.):
6. Outdoor living — 48 percent
5. Energy efficiency — 59 percent
4. Separate owner’s suite — 59 percent
3. Maintenance-free community — 61 percent
2. Large, open kitchen — 62 percent
1. First-floor living — 81 percent
ICI Homes says…
We’ve got you covered! Many of our floor plans are versatile one-level layouts that encompass three to four-bedroom and two to three bathrooms.
Owner’s suites are tucked in a private part of the home, with other bedrooms located on the opposite side. Many plans can also be customized to include a second owner’s suite, if needed.
Large, open kitchens are a staple of ICI Homes designs. We know the kitchen is the heart of many homes, and deluxe kitchens with beautiful, functional islands are one of our hallmarks. It anchors our open living areas, that include dining and social areas and easy access to must-have outdoor living spaces such as lanais and summer kitchens.
Many ICI Homes communities offer a maintenance-free option — particularly our luxury townhomes at Plantation Bay Golf & Country Club in Ormond Beach, and at Woodhaven in Port Orange. That’s because folks anticipating retirement also anticipate retiring from yard work!
ICI Homes also builds EQ Factor homes — energy-efficient materials and appliances coupled with the latest environmentally friendly construction techniques — that are better for you and your budget.
