The benefits of being near an institution of higher learning, in terms of home values and opportunities, is worth understanding.
Make that institution of higher learning an elite, top-ranked institution, well then, you’ve just added the cherry on top.
That’s the case with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. It’s highly ranked in several categories in the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges for 2020 report, and continues to expand its academic offerings, facilities and enrollment.
What significance should this have to home buyers in Daytona Beach? The area is booming with new jobs, industries, services and communities such as the ones ICI Homes builds here.
Having quality higher education in one’s new back yard is important for families with college-age children or those who will be someday.
But that’s not the only reason. Read on for more on why Embry-Riddle is a big plus for Daytona Beach home buyers.
It’s getting bigger and better
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University was founded in 1926 in Cincinnati, Ohio, as a flight school. It later moved from Miami to Daytona Beach in 1965.
Although it began with a specialty mission, “ERAU” has expanded greatly through the decades. It now offers degree programs in business and more traditional disciplines as well as its core engineering and aviation programs.
“ERAU” also is enjoying robust growth, with new buildings going up all over campus. Those include new dormitories, and student center and library complexes.
About those rankings
Embry-Riddle is ranked 11th in the regional universities category for the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges for 2020 report. That’s a jump from 15th a year ago.
It excels in serving veterans and is tied for fourth with John Brown University for best 2020 colleges for that category, trailing only The Citadel, Appalachian State University and the College of Charleston.
Engineering and aviation as well as study and research of the “wild blue yonder” is Embry-Riddle’s thing. It’s tied with Purdue University for fourth in 2020 among undergraduate aerospace, aeronautical, astronautical engineering universities, trailing only the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech).
Certainly “interstellar” statistics to trumpet!
Why “ERAU” matters to Daytona Beach
Not only do Daytona Beach residents live in a top-rated Florida destination, there are plenty of other good things happening here aside from the “World’s Most Famous Beach.”
Those aforementioned new jobs, industries and entertainment options, plus abundant natural resources and recreation, are powerful pulls for future home buyers. Still, few things enrich one’s property value like top-notch school systems (the Daytona Beach area has those, too) and access to quality higher education.
However, Embry-Riddle’s educational excellence isn’t its sole contribution. Job opportunities, special events, and NCAA Division II sports teams to root for, involve the entire community.
