Lake Nona Living, ICI Homes-Style

Residents of Lake Nona live in some of Central Florida’s most desirable zip codes. The area southeast of Orlando is removed from the typical congestion, traffic and noise found elsewhere, while still convenient to anywhere a Lake Nona resident wants or needs to be.

Live Oak Estates, an ICI Homes gated community of one-acre lots, offers new-home buyers the opportunity to build their dream home in a setting unlike any other Lake Nona area development. A one-acre lot means premium size, privacy — and yes — peace and quiet.

Still, with all that idyllic spaciousness, how will you spend your fun time?0-exterior-tight

Play at Moss Park

This large Orange County park is only 2.5 miles south of Live Oak Estates and five minutes from your front door. Huge oaks drip the park’s namesake spanish moss. Under them are hiking trails, boat ramps, playgrounds, a beach on Lake Mary Jane, barbecue grills and event pavilions. Visitors can rent canoes and kayaks. Primitive tent camping and RV hookups are available.

Boaters can connect to Lake Hart, to the west. Hikers and bird-and-wildlife watchers can connect to the Split Oak Forest Mitigation Park — a larger wilderness area — to the south.

Speaking of bird watching, Moss Park is on the Great Florida Birding Trail! Cited for Bachman’s Sparrows, Bald Eagles, Sandhill Cranes and Wood Storks, it’s one of 501 sites across the Sunshine State designated for bird watching and wildlife viewing. Yes, you also might spot an alligator.

Live Local

Start with 44 miles of hiking, biking and fitness trails throughout the Lake Nona area. Then, feed your face.

The Community Farmer’s Market, which benefits the Back to Nature Wildlife Refuge, happens each Saturday from 9 a.m., until 2 p.m., at Valencia College’s Lake Nona campus. The Monday Market at the Lake Nona YMCA, which benefits Y scholarships, happens each Monday from 4-9 p.m. At each market, expect fresh fruits, vegetables and other foodstuffs from local producers, along with arts and crafts. One vendor offered red shrimp at a recent Saturday market.

The aforementioned Back to Nature Wildlife Refuge, near aforementioned Split Oak Forest Mitigation Park, is a Florida wildlife rehab and educational center more than worth a visit.

During the month of December, the annual Santa Village at Moss Park offers sparkly lights and a personal session with Santa Claus. More active holiday celebrants should enter the park’s Neon Santa Run 5K, held in mid-December.

Sample Orlando Amenities

From your front door in Live Oak Estates, you’re only 20 minutes away. Go hear the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. Watch the NBA’s Orlando Magic and the MLS’ Orlando City Soccer teams.
