The United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) and the United States Tennis Association (USTA) held their annual and semi-annual conventions jointly recently at the Club Med Sandpiper Bay in Port St. Lucie. Over 300 attendees convened for a conference of meetings, seminars, on-court presentations, and awards recognizing outstanding contributions to the tennis industry and both organizations.
Dave Brown, Plantation Bay Golf & Country Club Director of Tennis, was named Daytona Beach District’s USPTA “Pro of the Year”. Dave’s involvement in local USPTA community service includes serving as Tournament Director for the USPTA Champion of Champions that promotes tennis in the local community and raises money for the United Way agency, Volusia Literacy Council. He also served as Program Director for “Tennis Xpress”, a free after school program for kids 10 & under to help grow tennis in the district.
In addition, he was recently elected as President of the Greater Volusia Tennis League, a local community tennis organization that provides tennis league play for over 1,000 players in the Volusia/Flagler counties. Dave is also a Master Professional and an active participant in USPTA/USTA tournaments and holds national USPTA rankings in singles and USTA rankings in Father/Son doubles with his son, Aaron, also a USPTA tennis teaching professional.
Founded in 1927, USPTA is the world’s oldest and largest association of tennis teaching professionals. It has more than 15,000 members worldwide. Its mission is to elevate the standards of excellence among tennis teaching professionals.
