Escape from Screens in a Master-Planned Community

Escape from Screens in a Master-Planned Community - Master Planned community 1

When it’s time to unplug, today’s master-planned communities offer myriad reasons to log off and shut down — even from ever-present phones.

In today’s digital-first world, taking breaks from phone, tablet or computer screens can be hugely beneficial for our minds and bodies.

While these devices are crucial to 21st-century life, being active, particularly outdoors, can refresh us in a way that quick breaks from screen-staring, can’t. And with younger generations being more intentional about digital detoxes and analogue hobbies these days, it’s worth considering.

Since being outside is one of the simplest ways to accomplish this, we at ICI Homes have tips on how to do it in the communities we develop and those where we’re preferred builders.

Here’s how to escape from screens in a master-planned community.

Analogue antidote

When you need time apart from your device(s), living in an ICI Homes master-planned community gives you myriad great options to get moving and having fun, sans screens.

Playgrounds gives kids active breaks, as do swimming pools, for all ages. Fitness centers, pickleball, tennis and basketball courts, and miles of community trails get everyone going.

At Plantation Bay Golf & Country Club in Ormond Beach, and Amelia National Golf & Country Club in Fernandina Beach — two ICI Homes signature properties — new residents can play championship-level golf courses.

We’re also preferred builders at two other primo golf communities on Florida’s east central coast — The Conservatory at Hammock Beach and Oasis at Hammock Dunes, both in Palm Coast.

Back to nature

Outdoor pursuits, particularly in communities with trails, and lakes for fishing and launch sites for personal watercraft, are other great screen escapes.

Our Mosaic — Daytona Beach’s top master-planned community — boasts an expansive boardwalk along Lake Mosaic with comfy chairs, a fire pit, and room to cast a line.

Wellen Park, in North Port, where we’re building in multiple new neighborhoods, features miles of nature-shrouded hiking trails.

Seven Pines, in Jacksonville, a co-development with David Weekley Homes, provides a personal watercraft launch on its amenity-center lake.

At Weslyn Park, in St. Cloud, near Orlando, a newer master-planned community where ICI Homes is a preferred builder (in the Sunbridge neighborhood), “Naturehood,” is the developer-coined expression to describe the community’s 27,000 acres and the preservation of surrounding central Florida lakes, wetlands, prairies and woodlands.

Water, especially

Researchers from The Ohio State University’s College of Public Health reported in 2025 published work that people living within 30 miles of an ocean enjoy a longer life expectancy than people who live inland.

Because ICI Homes has built new custom Florida homes all over the state for more than 45 years, our communities are never far from water access.

Consider Marina Del Palma in Palm Coast and Veranda Bay in Flagler Beach. We’re preferred builders in both, which feature marinas and Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway access.

In Gainesville, Oakmont is minutes from north central Florida’s iconic rivers and freshwater springs.
