Sunbridge is being brought to life on 27,000 acres once owned by Central Florida’s Deseret Ranch. Miles of prairies, woodlands, lakes and wetlands surround it, and the intention is to keep it that way for preservation purposes and residential enjoyment.

These include the Sustainable Floridians Benchmarking and Monitoring Program at the University of Florida, the University of Central Florida, Life Soils, The Nature Conservancy, Toho Water Authority, Homegrown National Park, Cherrylake and the OUTSIDE Sustainable Landscapes Collaborative.

These partnerships amplify the community’s natural resources (how about transplanting more than 150 big trees?) and targets community engagement, ecological preservation, renewable energy and efficiency, water quality preservation and water resource conservation.

A new nonprofit, the Florida Headwaters Foundation Inc., also is tasked with preservation by helping new residents discover the importance and joy of sustainable, active living right at home.
