Port Orange: Come Live in One of Florida’s Safest Cities

Our Woodhaven community is our newest residential offering in this area. It features a range of single-family homes and townhomes, plus great amenities such as a gated entrance, swimming pool, cabana, and playground.
But, we have another reason for singling out Woodhaven and its Port Orange address. The city of Port Orange — one of several historic, booming municipalities that comprise the greater Daytona Beach area — recently was named the second safest city in Florida by SafeWise.com.
The reasons why come from the company’s 2019 Safest Cities report. SafeWise researches and reviews home security, safety products, and systems. Each year, it mines FBI crime statistics and U.S. Census Bureau stats to compile a list of the safest cities in each U.S. state.
What does this have to do with Woodhaven? Port Orange’s ranking as the second safest city in Florida is one more reason to check out Woodhaven if you’re searching for a new custom home in east central Florida. Allow us to explain.
SafeWise methodology
Here’s how company analysts determine, annually, the 50 safest cities in each U.S. state.
They begin with those statistics. For the 2019 list, they started with the FBI’s 2017 crime stats. After that, they determine a city’s population, its median income, its violent crime rate and its property crime rate.
Violent crimes included were murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault. Property crimes included were arson, burglary, motor vehicle theft and larceny-theft. To determine the crime rate of both categories for each city, analysts factored the rate of those crimes per 1,000 people.
How Port Orange fared
Excellently! Port Orange population was 61,892. Its median income was $48,478. Violent crime rate per 1,000 residents was 0.51. Its property crime rate per 1,000 residents was 25.04.
The only Florida city faring better was No. 1-ranked Key Biscayne, with a population of 13,127, a median income of $128.563, a violent crime rate of 0.15 and a property crime rate of 11.66.
In 2017, the national violent crime rate was 4.49. The national property crime rate was 27.11.
What makes Port Orange even safer
It’s great to know this municipality has been singled out for its environment. The fact that Woodhaven is a gated community ratchets up that safety even more.
