Live on a Golf Course, Florida Style

Seeking a new home for your clubs? Maybe your cart, too? You’ve come to the right state. Florida boasts thousands of golf courses and plenty of communities in which to enjoy the sport. If you’re ready for a new Florida home with an on-site tee box — or, you live with someone who is — we’re a perfect place to start. We even have a play before you pay option… read on to the end!

Here are a few guidelines about what to expect when a golf course is your backyard.

The Awesome Perks

First, you might not have a backyard. It depends whether your home adjoins the course and how golf-side homes are sited in your community. Outdoor living spaces and decorative landscaping may be all that separates your property from the rough. Yard-work loathers, rejoice!

Well-groomed backyard vistas are only one perk of living in a golf community. Spectacular views in every direction are daily givens, along with instant access to the course.

The Real-Life Details

Those gorgeous, carefree views come with a few caveats. Be prepared for less privacy. On busy days — the annual member-guest tournament — pairs and foursomes will tromp past your home from dawn to sunset.

If the thought of all those folks checking out your back porch is troubling, perhaps living across the street from the course is a more comfortable fit.

Heads-up for gardeners: some of these communities restrict backyard landscaping. They do it for a unified look and to blend the course with surrounding residential areas. Gardeners should make sure they can dig, water and prune unrestricted before purchasing their golf-side home.

And, a reminder that kids and pets will require more than the usual monitoring when the course is in play, especially if your property isn’t fenced. The dog wandering into the fairway and being plunked by an errant drive won’t be pleasant for the pet or the player.

Financial Benefits

What does this kind of living do for your bank account? A lot, actually. Homes in golf-course communities tend to hold their value extremely well. Should you decide to sell yours, expect the course and community amenities to help it sell quicker than non-golf course homes.

Where to Find Your Florida Golf Home

The Sunshine State has no shortage of these kinds of communities, but we at ICI Homes offer two of our favorites — Amelia National Golf and Country Club in Fernandina Beach and Plantation Bay Golf and Country Club in Ormond Beach.

Amelia National is located among the picturesque marshes and coastal forests of northeast Florida and features a Tom Fazio-designed golf course. Only a few miles from Atlantic beaches, it offers a ridiculously affordable initiation fee for its Fazio signature course, plus exclusive country-club living.

Plantation Bay is located within minutes of a hidden gem of a Central Florida beach town, Ormond Beach. Yet, it provides all the reasons to convince you to stay home. There are a whopping 45 holes of golf, a 7,000-square-foot fitness center, miles of recreational trails and gated entrances.

Schedule a Discovery Tour for either or both of these communities and learn what it feels like to live the golf course lifestyle in Florida.
